Detty December is the festive season in Nigeria and Ghana, from mid-December to early January. It's packed with concerts, beach parties, weddings and a homecoming for the African diaspora. 'Detty' is Pidgin for 'dirty', meaning celebrating without restraint.
When is Detty December 2026?
Roughly 14 December 2026 to 1 January 2027. The peak runs from 18 to 31 December, when Lagos hosts Detty December Fest, Flytime Fest and Wizkid, and Accra hosts Detty Rave and AfroFuture.
Is Detty December in Ghana or Nigeria?
Both. Lagos, Nigeria and Accra, Ghana are the twin capitals of the season, and many travellers split their trip across the two cities, about an hour apart by plane.
